Just as I worked to get the elephants to a place that made me content with the painting. I continue to rework this piece. I love the face, yet I'm not quite settled with the body as it sits in the grass.
When discussing the African series, Heidi suggested that I add a dead zebra in order to hide the parts I don't like. While it is funny there was something primal about watching the order that the lion pride ate their kills. And the way the scavengers hung around just close enough to be chased away every so often. It was a strange thing to observe and one that had to happen in order for the species to continue.
It would seem odd to add the dead zebra at this point; however, it might be an interesting painting to undertake one day. For now the cub will be up on the easel and I will paint out the areas that bother me.
